Our 2025 Inspirational Family: Janette and Jade Sutphin

This year, we honor Janette Sutphin and her 17-year-old daughter, Jade, as our 2025 Inspirational Family. Janette, a 46-year-old single mother, has shown extraordinary courage and grace in the face of unimaginable hardship. Diagnosed with inoperable stage 4 colon cancer, Janette’s journey has been marked by resilience, hope, and a fierce love for her daughter.

In her twenties, Janette was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, which caused severe weight loss and made eating difficult. Despite her health struggles, she persevered—eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 2011. But since her cancer diagnosis, Janette has been unable to work, making it difficult to care for herself and provide for Jade.

Her doctors initially gave her hope, telling her that her history with Crohn’s disease gave her a 95% chance of beating the cancer. Janette endured two weeks of chemotherapy and eight weeks of radiation—describing it as the most painful and emotionally draining experience of her life. At one point, she had to rely on a wheelchair just to attend treatment. Sadly, the treatments were unsuccessful. Surgery was her last option, but doctors were unable to remove all of the cancer.

Today, Janette is bedridden, lovingly cared for by her mother and daughter. Despite everything, she focuses on making the most of every moment—sharing her wisdom with Jade and cherishing the time they have together.

Janette wishes to extend her heartfelt thanks to the Cranberry CUP community. She is deeply moved by the kindness and support shown to her and her family. Every act of generosity, every prayer, has meant more than words can express.

She shared these words with us:
“Thank you for seeing us, for showing up for us, and for being the kind of neighbors that make Cranberry a home. You’ve not only lifted us financially, you’ve lifted our spirits—and that is a gift beyond measure.”

Please keep Janette and her family in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to fight with strength and dignity. Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact of community, compassion, and love.
